Summit County Colorado: Vacation in the Mountains

Colorado Mountain GoatMost people vacation in  Summit County for the wonderful skiing, but did you know that there is actually much more to do up here during the summer?  You could vacation or live here all year long and never get bored!

Colorado has some for the best four-wheel drive scenery in the world. The beautiful vistas seem to last forever and they can make one easily realize what an amazing world we live in. Many of the four-wheeling roads high up in the Rocky Mountains lead to ghost towns long forgotten. One can naturally sense what life was like over a century ago, as the views of vast landscapes appear dotted with old Mountains of Coloradocabins, deer, elk, mountain goats, and bears.

Many towns appeared in the Rocky Mountains beginning in the 1850’s, but only a few survived once the mining boom calmed down. This has left dozens of abandoned buildings high up in the Mountains in the most remote areas and they all seem to have that “ghostly air” about them.

Most of these old towns are accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles. However, the roads are rocky in areas and even in July, you can still find snow.

No matter what your budget is, there is always something fun to do in Summit County.  Between Silverthorne, Dillon, Keystone, Frisco, and Breckenridge, there is plenty of fun to be had.
